Abstract:
This paper uses a time-seriesdata for 359 alt coins between October 29, 2015 and December 24, 2015 to seecorrelations among these altcoins and Bitcoin (BTC), Euro (EUR), Japanese Yen(JPY), and Chinese Yuan (CNY). We find that altcoins of larger marketcapitalization are positively correlated with EUR and negatively with CNY. Onthe other hand, we also find that altcoins of smaller market capitalization arenegatively correlated with BTC. These results suggest that minor coins are thesubstitute for BTC while others are the complement of EUR and the substitutefor CNY.
